What is the philosophy of treatment?
JCS outpatient programs use a biopsychosocial
spiritual model which is based on the understanding that physical, mental
and spiritual factors may affect substance abuse, chemical dependency
and/or addiction. Our programs include special components to enhance
development and growth in each of these areas and are individualized
to meet the specific recovery needs of each patient. Our programs are
highly compatible with 12 step programs and we support 12 step program
attendance during and after treatment. JCS utilizes a variety of therapy
modalities that center around helping patients make immediate changes
in their lives and supporting on-going recovery wellness. JCS further
believes that addiction is a family disease and that the effects are
multi-generational. Family members and significant others are important
in the recovery process and are included (with patient permission) in
the treatment experience when appropriate. Breaking the cycle of addiction
is possible.
What
type of patient will benefit from the programs?
JCS outpatient programs are designed for those
individuals who need treatment and education for their addictions. They
are also available for those individuals who have experienced negative
consequences from their alcohol and/or drug use and so not want to continue
to use mood-altering substances. A person does not have to admit that
he/she is an addict or alcoholic to participate in a program. Additionally,
persons with a dual diagnosis of a mental illness and addiction may
benefit from participation, provided that they have been stabilized
and are seeing a mental health professional or physician for the co-existing
disorder.
Who
participates?
Chemical dependency and substance abuse have a
negative effect on the individual, the family and loved ones. The programs
center around treatment for the patient with the understanding that
involving significant others in the recovery process often enhances
wellness. Patients are often encouraged to invite significant others
to attend family night. This is not mandatory and is done so at the
discretion of the counselors and the patient. The patient must give
consent before anyone else accompanies him/her to a session.
Referral
contact
Verbal or written contact with an employee assistance
program, employer or other referring party is only provided with the
written consent of the patient. After a consent is obtained, we will
be happy to provide any information requested to help maintain continuity
of care.
Contact
with outside professionals
Maintaining contact with other professionals who
are involved in the patient's treatment or care is often beneficial
to the patient. It is often especially useful to maintain contact with
physicians, therapists, probation officers and attorneys. However, this
contact is only done so with the patient's consent.

Program
Schedule
Regular Outpatient: Monday and Thursday evenings
from 6PM to 9PM.Intensive Outpatient: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday
evenings from 6PM to 9PM. Wednesday nights are scheduled for family
nights.
Attendance
policy
All patients are expected to consistently attend
the number of recommended sessions identified in their treatment plan.
In the event of unavoidable absences, the patient should contact our
office at 938-0921. Unexplained absences are considered a treatment
issue and will result in a special case review. Unexcused consecutive
absences might result in administrative discharge. Every effort should
be made to arrive on time for each session.
Use
of alcohol and/or drugs
While enrolled in the outpatient programs, patients
are asked not to use any alcohol or other drugs unless prescribed by
a physician. This means avoiding use of all substances 24 hours a day
including weekends and non-treatment days. Random urine drug analysis
is conducted with group members. The collection of urine will be during
the time before group, break time and immediately following group. Failure
to provide a urine sample when one is requested is processed as a treatment
issue. Patients should inform the staff of any prescribed medication
that they are taking. Some medications might affect the outcome of a
urine drug analysis or ability to concentrate in treatment. Consultations
may be necessary if the medication is contraindicated for a recovering
person.
12
Step meeting attendance
Developing a diverse sober support network is
essential to recovery. All patients are requested to attend a minimum
of two 12 step meetings on a weekly basis in addition to their outpatient
program attendance. The meeting experience will preferably be related
to the patient's drug of addiction. Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics
Anonymous, and Cocaine Anonymous are available in the area. Al-anon,
Nar-anon, and Adult Children of Alcoholic meetings are also available
in the area. The staff will meet with patients to provide an orientation
to 12 step meetings and to provide information about involvement.
